Community events

As well as our regular join-in activities, we run events in our local community. There are annual events such as the Folk Festival, Bush Dance and Carols, and others we organise on an occasional basis in the streets and parks of our local area.

Newport Folk Festival

The Folk Festival is held in in late June/early July each year. For a day or two, we take over a group of Newport venues such as the Bowls Club, Scout Hall and Substation for a festival of concerts, workshops, spoken word and fun.
Our invitation:  "Come and play!"

Bush Dance

Our annual Bush Dance is an opportunity to gather in the beautiful bushland setting of Newport Lakes Park for an afternoon of local entertainment, kids activities and good old-fashioned bush dancing.

With live music from the Newport Bush Orchestra and experienced dance-callers to teach you the steps, this event is fun for everyone!

Annually in March, subscribe to email updates for details of the next one.

Carols Night

Every December the Newport Carols Orchestra appears out of nowhere and leads a night of carolling at a local venue. The Newport Community Choir leads the community singing and everyone has a delightful evening. In between the carol singing, we'll bring you music from local performers.

Annually in December, subscribe to email updates

Music on Mason

Our local area has some great areas for informal live music. One of our favourites is Paine Reserve on Mason St. Occasionally we line up a few performers and put on a few hours of music and kids activities in the park. Our performers are also often seen around the area at various community events - festivals. markets, school fetes, Open Days and more...
