Beginner Playalong

These sessions are for complete beginners who want to start playing with others, or more experienced musicians learning a new instrument.

Come along and enjoy making music together in a casual atmosphere.  

Bush Orchestra

We mostly play traditional Australian dance tunes but we branch out into other genres too. All instruments welcome. No music reading required, we learn by ear.

Celtic Session

A relaxed and welcoming session with a focus on Celtic tunes.

Bring an instrument and a tune or two, or just come along and listen.

Choir

Experience the fun of singing with others in a supportive environment. Everyone welcome - whether you have a little experience as a singer, a lot or none at all.

Crafting and Decorating Group

The NFFC Crafting and Decorating group is open to anyone with an interest in any craft, just bring along a project you’re working on and join in the friendly chat. 

Drummers

A community-based drum ensemble modeled on West African instruments and rhythms, and founded on the concept of this music being celebrated with our community, through group ensemble practice and performance.

Live@Newport

Sometimes we get together for a really big night (or afternoon) of music at the Newport Bowls Club. Live@Newport includes Theme Nights, Singalongs and performances by professional musicians.

Old Timey Session

The Newport Old Timey Session is a fun way to learn old-time and bluegrass tunes and songs - and meet a bunch of people who like this stuff as much as you!

Open Stage

A chance to get up on stage and perform, or perhaps to just come along and enjoy listening to local performers in a relaxed atmosphere. The night is run on a 'blackboard' system - put your name on the board and you'll get a turn to perform.

Slow and Steady Celtic Session

Love Celtic music? Play a Celtic session instrument?
Join us at the Slow and Steady Session.
This session offers a welcoming, low-pressure space for musicians of all ages and skill levels to learn, play and enjoy Celtic repertoire at a more relaxed “traditional” pace

Songwriters

Over the years we've run several activities designed to actively encourage and develop the skills of budding (and experienced) songwriters - groups, workshops and the opportunity to perform and record original songs.

Storytellers

​Newport Storytellers is an open-hearted space for people who want to learn to craft true tales, traditional stories, tall tales, yarns and stories for children; heart to heart and without notes.

Strings

Newport Strings is a classical strings ensemble. There is a range of playing experience within the group, from people who have performed professionally, to those with experience in other genres who are keen to explore more the classical repertoire and interpretation. 

Tues Blues

A mainly acoustic rehearsal for mellow classics and beltin' blues, soul, roots etc. Whatever you play, if you can turn it to blues, roots and soul, boogie on down!

Community events

​As well as our regular join-in activities, we run events in our local community. There are annual events such as the Folk Festival, Bush Dance and Carols, and others we organise on an occasional basis in the streets and parks of our local area.
